PROJET LAUREAT > "a surprising revelation"

Concours pour la construction d´une maison (> 1000 m²) à Lamerwood ("green belt" au Nord de Londres).

Le projet attache une importance toute particulière aux travail sur les transitions entre espaces publics, semi publics, privés, famillial, intimes...

C´EST QUOI UNE "BEAUTIFULL HOUSE” ?

Dans le cadre de ce concours en phase esquisse, notre projet n´aborde pas la question des matériaux de parement, des finitions. La définition des ambiances, les choix de mobilier... seront l´objet d´études complémentaires au cours d´une seconde phase de projet après discussions avec les propriétaires. 

A ce stade, la définition de notre projet de "beautiful House" est concentrée sur les fondamentaux de l´architecture :

- Analyse fonctionnelle et sensible, compréhension et (re)définition du programme.

- Choix implantation et définition du rapport entre la maison et le paysage.

- Définition du plan masse et de l´enveloppe + organisation fonctionnelle des différents éléments de programme. Une attenation particulière est accordée aux perception du site, à la lumière naturelle.

- Développement sensible sur les relations entre les différentes fonction de la maison par le traitements des espaces de transition, les cadrages de vues... Le projet répond aux besoins pour tous les usages de tous les habitants tout en cherchant des solutions qui encouragent le "vivre ensemble" .

- Définition sensible et précise des rapports entre espaces publiques, privés/familial, intimes 

- Proposer une expérience architecturale accessible pour tous.

THE PROJECT 

The project is located in the place of the existing house, that is a good location: altitude, view, orientation…

So our proposal maintains the existing access road : it brings the car at the “back of the site”. Car parks are grouped with the existing “technical” equipments.

Considering the program size and the site dimensions, we wanted this project to be a strong but sober intervention. From the landscape point of view, our will is to divide clearly the site in two parts : the “back part” (behind the house on the north), and the “front part” (open to the view on the lake and the general landscape). The “back part” is the public part. The front part is the private part. The house takes place in between, redefining relations and transitions from public to private parts of the site.

The program elements are unrolled like a strip from the east (near the access road) to the west of the plot. 

Arriving from the road, a first volume includes office, meeting room, etc. with an external car park. 

The general perception of the house and the garden by people coming for professional meetings would be limited. This first volume is connected to the habitation and garden.

Further, in the middle of the “strip”, the entrance hall provides a quick access to all parts of the habitation despite the project dimensions.  The length of the house allows the creation of a gentle slope rising to the East and serving all parts of the house up to the “external” guest’s zone while the parent’s level (master bedroom and cinema) is served by lift. Living spaces are developed on the south side and the swimming pool provides a feeling of swimming in the middle of the trees.

Finally, a second strip is unrolled towards the lake. Including additional leisure pool with summer kitchen, facilities and mirror pool, this part of the project closes the garden from the access road.
